Event: Corporate Governance and Due Diligence

CFA Institute held an event at the Academy today entitled ‘Corporate Governance and Due Diligence’. The event was closed to media and held under the Chatham House Rule which states: “When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under Chatham House Rules, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.”

William Tohme, Regional Head of MENA and Steve Wallace, Director of Outreach, MENA both of CFA Institute led three fireside chats covering the three key topics of: 1) Corporate Governance; 2) Due Diligence; and 3) Control Risk. CFA Institute is an ADGM Academy partner within the School of Professional Development, offering the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Qualification among other highly regarded professional qualifications.

The event was opened by Mr. Hamad Al Mazrouei, MD of ADGM Academy whose speech is below:

“Esteemed Guests, on behalf of Abu Dhabi Global Market, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to ADGM Square.

The financial sector is an important enabler of economic growth – not only for Abu Dhabi, but for the UAE and the wider region. Education and professional development are key drivers for the growth of the financial sector. For this reason, we at ADGM are working to develop Al Maryah Island as a regional hub for talent and learning within the financial sector. We believe that through this initiative, we will help cultivate a highly skilled workforce, and ensure Abu Dhabi is an attractive destination to pursue a career in finance.

CFA Institute’s move to ADGM Square is strategic for both organisations. With this move, CFA Institute has now become an exclusive member of our vibrant and modern community, which we at ADGM pride ourselves on.

Today, our emphasis is on raising standards and adhering to international best practice, so we are equally staged with our industry practices in UK, South East Asia etc.

This partnership between ADGM & CFA Institute should play an instrumental role in establishing and leading these standards in our investment community. Within this square, we have all our resources, the academia and expertise, to put in place these drivers for change.

With this in mind, I also believe that jointly ADGMA and CFA Institute can contribute towards building a unique community experience, which can be pivotal in developing standards within governance and due diligence in the Investment community.

We at ADGM also belief that through teaching, we develop responsible, thoughtful leaders and entrepreneurs who create value for their organisation and their communities. One of our leading strategic initiatives is to create Centres of Excellence in Research, Standards and Innovation in our ADGM Square. Through this hub, we aim to create and deliver a unique learning experience for both trainee and trainer. I am happy to share the close collaboration our talent hub team has with CFA Institute to achieve this national objective.

On this note, I welcome you and your team to your new home at ADGM Square.”
